Southampton attacker Theo Walcott was left on the bench for the entire duration of the Premier League clash with Aston Villa. Theo Walcott started the home clash with Villa on the bench and he was not subbed on as Southampton recorded a third league win in four games via a 1-0 victory over the team from the Midlands.

Theo Walcott and his teammates have enjoyed a good run of form since the international break last month.They took their unbeaten run to four games in the Premier League thanks to the slim win over Villa. The run started on the back of the defeat to league leaders Chelsea with ten men. The Saints had key midfielder James Ward-Prowse sent off for a challenge on Jorginho in the final 13 minutes of the game and that affected the outcome a great deal. Chelsea scored two goals after the red card to the England international to seal a 3-1 home win at the expense of their South Coast opponents.

The Chelsea game was played just before the October international break. In the first game after the aforementioned international break, Southampton picked up their first league win of the season with the 1-0 victory over visitors Leeds United thanks to the goal from Albanian international Armando Broja. In the next league game, hosts Southampton and Burnley played out a 2-2 draw with Albanian striker Broja and young English fullback TinoLivramento on the scoresheet.

Southampton took their unbeaten run to three games with the slim 1-0 away win over Watford through the goal from Scotland senior national team player Che Adams. In their latest league game, Adam Armstrong scored in the third minute to give the Saints a 1-0 home win over Villa. The Villa game proved to be the final one for Dean Smith who was sacked afterwards.Saints’ opponents, Villa have now lost their last five games in the league. The run led to the exit of Dean Smith at Villa.
