THEO HAS AMBITIONS

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has said that he is extremely optimistic about the chances of England at the forthcoming major tournaments like the FIFA World Cup 2014 and the Euro 2016. England failed to once again progressed past the quarter-final stage of a major competition after they lost on penalties to Italy.

Theo Walcott has been one of the surprise packages of the England's Euro 2012 campaign. Even though his Arsenal teammates Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain was preferred to the starting line-up in the match against France, Theo Walcott proved his quality in the latter stages of the tournament.

England were defeated 4-2 on penalties by Italy the quarter-final stage of the competition. Despite the heartbreak in the quarter-final stage once again, Theo Walcott has said that he is confident that England can do well in the upcoming major tournaments. The 23-year-old Arsenal winger is entering into the final year of his Arsenal contract, with many rumours suggesting that he is set to depart the club in the same manner as Robin van Persie. Chelsea have been rumoured to be the possible destination for the former Southampton winger, who has never really fulfilled his potential at Arsenal. However, the last season was probably his best with Arsenal till date.

"We have got to look forward to the future because it is going to be bright. I am sure of that. We have to have our heads raised up high and we have got to look forward to the World Cup qualifiers coming up soon. We'll have a good break, and everyone deserves it, but a lot of experience was learnt in that game against Italy, especially for the young players - and I am one of them," said Walcott after the Euro 2012 exit. Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott both have only one year left on their contracts.
